Continuous improvement: beyond retros<\/span><\/h4>\n

We seem to try to foster a mindset of continuously and relentlessly striving for improvement with mainly one practice: retrospectives. For years, retros have been our default <\/span>\u2013 <\/span>and often our only <\/span>\u2013<\/span> continuous improvement tool. Aurelien Beraud certainly used to think that retros were the most important ceremony. As a coach, he previously considered them his main tool to drive improvement.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this talk, Aurelien Beraud prompts us look beyond retros and explore what other tools (Toyota Kata, improvement boards, etc.) and concepts we can explore to foster a continuous improvement mindset. Drawing on his own journey, Aurelien will share experiments he has conducted and is planning to carry out<\/span>\u2014 <\/span>discussing<\/span> what worked for him and, more importantly, what hasn’t and where he failed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jez Humble is an author, speaker, CTO at DevOps Research and Assessment LLC, and a lecturer at UC Berkeley.<\/span><\/p>

He is the co-author of <\/span>Continuous Delivery<\/span><\/i>, the Jolt Award-winning book in Martin Fowler's signature series, as well as the books <\/span>Lean Enterprise<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>The DevOps Handbook<\/span><\/i>. Jez has spent his career tinkering with code, infrastructure, and product development and consulting in companies of varying sizes across three continents, most recently working for the US Federal Government at 18F.
