Ethics of gravity<\/span><\/h4>\n

Ben Rimmer has been faced with some significant challenges in recent years, leading him to think deeply about the \u2018ethics of gravity\u2019 and connections between community, decision makers and teams. Being grounded in real problems is a key feature of new ways of working and offers real hope for teams to engage more effectively. As a senior public servant, he argues the need for everyone to build working practices that involve stronger, more connected relationships to inform better decision making for all that will be impacted. <\/span><\/p>\n

About Ben Rimmer<\/span><\/p>\n

Ben Rimmer was the CEO of the City of Melbourne for four years, leaving the council at the end of 2018. Leading the City of Melbourne administration, Ben supported the Lord Mayor and Councillors to achieve their objectives and deliver the community\u2019s vision of a bold, inspirational and sustainable city. <\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to joining the City of Melbourne, Ben was the Associate Secretary in the Australian Government\u2019s Department of Human Services in Canberra. He has also had executive leadership roles at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, where he was Deputy Secretary, and the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet. Before joining the public sector he worked with private sector clients in Boston Consulting Group\u2019s London and Melbourne offices.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jez Humble is an author, speaker, CTO at DevOps Research and Assessment LLC, and a lecturer at UC Berkeley.<\/span><\/p>

He is the co-author of <\/span>Continuous Delivery<\/span><\/i>, the Jolt Award-winning book in Martin Fowler's signature series, as well as the books <\/span>Lean Enterprise<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>The DevOps Handbook<\/span><\/i>. Jez has spent his career tinkering with code, infrastructure, and product development and consulting in companies of varying sizes across three continents, most recently working for the US Federal Government at 18F.
