In 2023, she was the recipient of the Australian Prime Ministers Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Secondary Schools for her work to inspire students with diverse, creative backgrounds, by applying mathematics to real-world problems and introducing them to future career opportunities in science.

She is President Elect of the Mathematics Association of WA, introducing Maths Talent Quest, a student activity that encourages students to consider real world problems and apply mathematical and statistical thinking processes to solve them. As a result of her interest in cryptographic science, Donna also established an accredited cybersecurity course in Western Australia to educate the next generation about ways to make a more safe and secure online environment.

A lead tutor at the Perth Girls Programming Network, she supports girls in secondary schools to develop their algorithmic thinking through programming and provides mentorship to tutors. In recognition of her work in Technologies education, she was presented the 2023 Women in Technologies WA STAR[+] Award and was the recipient of an ICT Educator Award by the Academy of Computer Science.

[/et_pb_text][dipi_dual_heading first_heading=”Lightning talk” second_heading=”Putting maths on the map – a digital renaissance” heading_display=”column” fh_style=”background” first_heading_color=”#F7955B” fh_padding=”3px|5px|0px|5px|false|false” fh_margin=”0px|0px|0px|0px|false|false” _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” first_heading_font=”|||on|||||” first_heading_text_color=”#FFFFFF” first_heading_font_size=”12px” second_heading_line_height=”1.4em” text_orientation=”left” custom_margin=”||0px||false|false” custom_padding=”||0px|0px|false|false” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][/dipi_dual_heading][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.25.2″ _module_preset=”default” link_font=”|700|||||||” link_text_color=”#26AEBB” custom_padding=”||25px||false|false” hover_enabled=”0″ border_width_bottom=”1px” border_color_bottom=”#9AD9E7″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]In this lightning talk, Donna Buckley will share how putting mathematics on the map can enhance slow critical creative thinking in the next generation, preparing them for an era of innovation beyond the digital revolution.
