What is Activate Agile?

‘Agile’ is an approach to working that has been across the world’s leading tech organisations to help them work better and create amazing products.

Activate Agile is an afternoon designed specifically for students and their educators to find out more about the Agile way of working. It runs alongside the national industry conference, AgileAus.

The session connects eager minds with professionals working in some of the biggest tech companies in Melbourne to introduce them to Agile frameworks – how they work and why they work. You’ll discover what it’s really like to work as a developer, business analyst, product manager, or designer at the likes of Microsoft, or ANZ to name a few.

Why should I attend?

  • Learn the approaches tech companies use to build the right apps, platforms, and portals, and build them right!
  • Gain some insight into the workplace practices of Agile companies: pairing, standups, sprints, iterations and the role of customers.
  • Meet face-to-face with those living and breathing code, design, and strategy every day.
  • Discover the traits that tech employers are looking for in new team members.

What are other students saying?

  • “Agile Australia really helped expose me to different areas that I otherwise wouldn’t have thought about. I walked away exposed to concepts in business, strategy, efficiency, code cleanliness, code safety, teamwork, game theory and even neuroscience. This has given me many interesting avenues to pursue further knowledge in.”
    – Andrew Jakubowicz, First Year Software Engineering Student at Monash University (2016)

  • “The way the speakers articulate hands-on Agile practices makes you feel that it is relevant to your daily work”
    – Mindy Wong, Studying a Masters of Information Systems at the University of Melbourne (2016)

Get involved

High school and university students with a deep curiosity for Agile can explore beyond the Activate Agile session by volunteering for the Agile Australia Conference – the national business and tech industry conference. AgileAus brings together both local and international speakers as well as the nation’s leading professionals to connect and collaborate. If you are a career-oriented student wondering how Agile could drive your future career and want to learn from those who have walked the talk, you may like to consider becoming a volunteer at the Conference.

As a volunteer, you’ll be able to listen in on the greatest thinkers in the Agile world, grasp the strategies that are changing the way Australian companies work, while rubbing shoulders with gaming revolutionaries, product developers, Agile pioneers, thought leaders and so much more – all while helping the conference to run smoothly.
