About Anton de Weger

Anton de Weger is a seasoned leader, Founder, and technical director with a strong focus on machine learning strategy and application. He has successfully established and sold a multinational enterprise systems consulting company, guided a global enterprise software company towards a “Machine Learning First” approach, and architected other machine learning based applications.

His passion lies in machine learning product design and methodology, AI ethics, integrating machine learning with human decision-making, and harnessing the power of technology through high-performance multinational teams. This aligns perfectly with the opportunities at the Australian Epilepsy Project (AEP), where he contributes to encoding and distributing world-leading brain analysis expertise and data collection practices for epilepsy.

Session Seeing the future of health technology through Agile

The Australian Epilepsy Project at the Florey has used Agile in the development of a brain research-as-care platform. This brought together world leading researchers, a small local technology team and an off-shore development partner to build their plane while flying it, in an environment where innovation and delivery speed is generally difficult.

Key elements included a loose adherence to methodology, lots of pivoting, an 80% right target (in an environment where 99.5% is frowned upon), recorded daily stand-ups, transparent processes, a strong privacy, ethics and regulatory environment, complex knowledge processing pipeline with many machine learning components.

The result was an on-time, significantly under budget delivery of a scalable, secure and functional system that learns as it processes and has supported impactful results for individuals and a potential vision of the future of healthcare.
