Are you passionate about something that helps othersdo better work? We’d love to hear your story!

AgileAus

The Expression of Interest (EOI) process is our way of seeking hot-topic talks and interactive Play & Do sessions and any other ideas you might have for us to consider for the AgileAus25 program.

AgileAus25 invites all to explore the theme of Delighting our Customers!

Why speak at AgileAus25

Speaking at the AgileAus Conference is a coveted opportunity to engage with a welcoming, switched-on audience.

AgileAus places great value in nurturing speakers both brand new and seasoned to have the best possible experience from the moment they are conditionally accepted until the curtain falls (and beyond!).

As a speaker you will have access to an abundance of support in the form of unforgettable speaker bootcamps led by the brilliant Zoë Coyle, a program guide (who will ‘buddy’ with you to be your sounding board and help your talk be the best it can be) and opportunities to refine your talk with feedback from the volunteer community during dry runs.

As an AgileAus speaker, you will be given every opportunity to shine and see your story bloom and make ripples amongst your peers.

With a strong focus on connections, AgileAus will introduce you to distinguished contemporaries, possible collaborators, and new friends to treasure long after the Conference ends.

AgileAus Bootcamp

How it works

Each year, we receive over 200 EOIs from those hoping to share their story on the AgileAus stage.

Becoming a speaker at AgileAus is an involved process. The influx of EOIs is whittled down by a dedicated volunteer community before a shortlist is formed. Those shortlisted will be invited to partake in interviews (held online) in February 2025 to help the community decide which stories are the best fit for the AgileAus25 audience.

From the hundreds of hopefuls, less than one in 10 EOIs are extended a conditional acceptance to speak at the Conference.

A conditional talk is only offered a spot on the program when both the speaker and program guide sign off that they are happy for the talk to proceed (in early-May 2025).

How to submit an EOI

In 2025, EOIs are being accepted via Google form. Submitters are welcome to input up to 3 EOIs.

EOIs are being accepted for 30 minute talks, 1 hour interactive Play & do sessions and 5 minute lightning talks.

In the spirit of prioritising face to face feedback, those shortlisted will be invited to partake in interviews with AgileAus community members from the week beginning 11 February 2025 to help us understand if your ideas will resonate.

If your EOI/s are not shortlisted you will be informed in February 2025 and you will be able to request further information on why it was not selected.

Those offered a conditional place on the program (about 1 in 10 EOIs) will then progress on to a supportive and rewarding journey to the AgileAus25 stage!

Who else speaks at Agile Australia?

Anyone is invited to submit up to three EOIs to speak at AgileAus25 and possibly be selected to be a community speaker through a peer-review process. Other speakers at the Conference are invited speakers and sponsored talks.

Keynote and Invited speakers
AgileAus25 will include speakers invited to speak by TeamSlatts, the organisers, to address hot topics and any gaps in the program.

Sponsored sessions
It is possible for sponsors to purchase presentation spots labelled as such on the program.

Deep Dives
Invited and keynote speakers are encouraged to participate in interactive, intimate Deep Dive sessions where attendees can pick their brains by asking questions.

How long do I speak?

The majority of speakers are asked to present for 30 minutes, including any Q&A. Play & Do sessions run for an hour. Allocated MCs will provide a short introduction and help facilitate any questions from the audience should time permit.

Lightning talks are 5 minutes long and include a 4-minute warning bell and a 5 minute continuous bell to wrap up.

Who am I speaking to?

Usually those attending the Conference are members of multidisciplinary teams with job titles such as delivery lead, business analyst, product manager and Agile coach. Most attendees work at large enterprises across a range of sectors such as finance and telecommunications or from up-and-coming startups, government and for-purpose organisations. Half of those attending are usually attending the AgileAus conference for the first time. And there is a real mix of exposure and experience with Agile and favourite flavours of Agile.

Those attending the Conference can read the description of your talk and decide to attend. We are never sure how many will end up in any room. The closer the description of your talk matches the audience who can most benefit from your talk, the more receptive your audience will be!

How do I know if I’m on the right track?

If you need extra guidance to help your EOI be the best it can be, you can request assistance from the AgileAus EOI doctor.

The doctor’s role is to work outside the reviewing process, offering advice and answering questions to those that need it one-on-one. To be connected with this free service, please email: doctor@agileaustralia.com.au

How does feedback work?

In 2025, we are prioritising face-to-face conversations rather than capturing comments and feedback on a platform as in previous years. If your talk is shortlisted you will be invited to partake in interviews kicking off from the week beginning 11 February 2025. If your talk is not shortlisted you will have the opportunity to request feedback via email or phone.

How does AgileAus decide which talks make it?

AgileAus has a brainstrust made up of community representatives that take on volunteer positions of Reviewers. They help review the EOIs and together decide which talks should be shortlisted and ultimately offered a conditional spot on the program.

AgileAus takes special care to ensure that no constituency is over or underrepresented across the breadth of talks on the program, which include but are not limited to the following considerations when we plan the program:

  • A balance between theoretical and practical talks
  • A balance between tech and non-tech talks
  • A diverse representation of different organisational sizes (from enterprise to startup), and industries (from financial services to for purpose)
  • A selection of speaker roles and job titles
  • Representation of marginalised groups and individuals

How are speakers compensated?

All those invited to speak at AgileAus25 receive a complimentary registration to the Conference.

For Speakers (not including Lightning Talks) travelling from interstate or overseas, AgileAus is happy to contribute up to AU$300 towards any flights taken. Reimbursements will be paid to you post-event, provided you can attend and present your talk.

To ensure they can share the love – AgileAus speakers receive a 10% discount code for their colleagues, clients and network to attend AgileAus25.

AgileAus also provides speakers many opportunities to promote their message as part of the Conference – with invitations to guest post on the AgileTODAY blog and social media materials to share.

From start to finish your community has been super inclusive and have shared so much knowledge with me. I am so grateful for the work that you and the Agile organising team do. What a marathon event you have organised - a testament in itself to your values and principles.

The experience leading up to this was actually my highlight! AgileAus really invest in you as a speaker - from the application process right through until the end. From rigorous conversations to understand who you are as speakers and what you bring to the event, to Speakers Bootcamps, dry-runs with excellent feedback, community via Slack, and most importantly assigning you a Speaker Guide.
