About Peter Sbarski

Peter Sbarski is a software engineer, AWS Serverless Hero, and published author with expertise in cloud computing, serverless architectures, and backend engineering. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Monash University and has spent his career at the forefront of cloud-native innovation.

Peter is the author of Serverless Architectures on AWS (Manning Publications), now in its second edition. Currently he’s an active organiser of the Serverless Meetup in Melbourne.

Previously VP of Engineering and Education at A Cloud Guru, Peter has led teams building large-scale cloud solutions. He is passionate about event-driven programming, microservices, and helping developers and organisations get the most out of modern cloud platforms.

More recently, Peter has turned his attention to the intersection of cloud computing and artificial intelligence, working on early-stage startup ideas, exploring how modern cloud infrastructure can accelerate the development and deployment of AI-powered products. He is particularly interested in how serverless and cloud-native patterns can help startups move fast, scale efficiently, and bring intelligent applications to market.

Session Five levels of letting go

Peter Sbarski introduces a five-level AI Maturity Model to help engineers and organisations understand where they sit on the AI adoption journey. From ad hoc experimentation to governed autonomous engineering, Peter shares real stories of what’s working, what’s breaking, and what it means for the people building software today – including the shifting roles of seniors and juniors, the blurring of developer and product manager, and the deeper question of professional identity in an age where the barrier to building is dropping to near zero.
