Lightning talk Applying Agile concepts to the development of new renewable storage technologies

Origin Energy and Allegro, a battery startup, are piloting a scalable battery able to generate power for 10+ hours. Similar projects have previously used Waterfall, this project is using Agile concepts to shorten feedback cycles, speed up design iterations, and manage risks and assumptions better.

The project involves teams from three companies, who are collaborating around design outcomes instead of traditional project deliverables. Slicing work this way means earlier involvement of technical specialists and enabled the team to prepare regulatory applications faster.

Using frequent showcases, the designs evolved quickly from sketches to detailed drawings. These showcases have increased clarity, action, and risk mitigation. Agile concepts enhanced the feedback loops and reduced internal and external silos.
